SQA National Units H8WW 46 - Part of Professional Development Award (PDA) in Repair and Maintenance of Traditional Masonry (1.5 Credits)

This unit is about making repairs to stonemasonry including careful removal of defective stone, replacing with new matching stone and undertaking surface repair of stone with lime based repair products.

Course Suitability

This unit is suitable for those

✔️ With limited experience in the construction or heritage industries to develop your ability to undertake repairs to stonemasonry structures by the replacement of individual stonemasonry components and specialist repair mortars.

✔️ With a keen interest in the care and repair of traditional buildings and have some experience of ‘wet’ trowel trades.

Unit Requirement

To be eligible to register for this unit, you MUST:

✔️ have completed our C3 Stone Indents and surface Repair of Stone courses

✔️ completed Pre-Assessment questions - These must be submitted 1 week before the assessment start date if possible. For those booking later, please contact our admin team on 01383 872722.

Course Programme

The practical experience and underpinning knowledge required for this assessment is taught on our 1 Day training course C3 – Stone Indents and our 2 Day training course Surface Repair of Stone.

The assessment will consist of 3 day face-to-face training of Stonemasonry Repairs plus your commitment of up to 2 days for self study before you sit the assessment.

Learning Outcome

On completion of this unit you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

✔️ Repair methods for stonemasonry walling;

✔️ Replacing defective stone components; and

✔️ effective surface repair of stone surfaces using lime mortar repair products.

Assessment

You will be assessed through completion of ‘closed-book’ multiple choice questions and practical tasks as described above.

Upon successful completion, you will gain 1.5 National Unit credits at SCQF Level 6 – Equivalent to Higher

Cancellation

Please note: should you cancel this course after booking an admin fee of £25 (incl VAT) will be retained by the Scottish Lime Centre.
