- Retrofitting Traditional Buildings - Case Studies
A half-day session dedicated to good-practice case studies from across the UK.
Note: This course is intended to complement the ‘Retrofitting Traditional Building - Principles & Practice’ masterclass and it is recommended that delegates either attend both courses or already have a sound understanding of the technical aspects of deep retrofit.
A range of projects will be presented, covering traditional and historic buildings, illustrating the key principles and details required for a holistic, whole-building approach to retrofit.
Case study buildings include domestic and non-domestic, urban and rural, and listed and unlisted buildings, conversions and deep to medium-level performance targets.
Technical measures are presented alongside performance analysis, hygrothermal moisture risk analysis, detailed architectural drawings and post-occupancy monitoring where available to demonstrate the links between theory and practice.
Most projects represent good practice, but there are also examples of poor practice to demonstrate the wide range of unintended consequences that can occur without a robust approach.
As well as being taken through several completed projects in detail, delegates will also have the opportunity to work through a real project and identify appropriate retrofit strategies, allowing delegates to work through some of the challenges involved in a typical traditional building retrofit, discuss different approaches and highlight the importance of treating every building individually.
